Separation & Divorce in Saskatchewan - The Easy Way

Divorce/separation can be a very stressful time. If you’re in the middle of a divorce or separation, it’s almost impossible to focus on anything else.

Navigating the court system is extremely expensive and time-consuming. It can take years for couples to reach an agreement through the courts, and by that point their entire lives have been put on hold.

Settle Now Online was founded by Brad Hunter, Q.C., a highly experienced family mediator with over 40 years of experience practicing family law who saw the need for change in the way divorces and separations were handled. He wanted to make this process easier for everyone involved so they could move forward with their lives as soon as possible without sacrificing any of their rights or interests during negotiations.

The result is Settle Now Online – Saskatchewan’s leading family mediation service that makes the process of separation easy, affordable and convenient! With both an in-person & online system and easy-to-use process couples can now come to a settlement within weeks without ever stepping into a courtroom!

"I am on a mission to give people the ability to have a say in their separation and get on with their lives - with dignity and their heads held high. At Settle Now Online, we do just that."

- Brad Hunter, Q.C.

How It Works

Our simple 5-step process is designed to help you and your spouse develop a plan together so you can move on with your lives.

Start by applying for a free consultation to see if Settle Now Online is right for you. If you qualify, we will meet with both of you and determine if family dispute resolution is appropriate and how to set up the most effective process for the two of you based on your individual family needs.

Once you’ve enrolled, we prepare your mediation, arbitration or combined mediation/arbitration agreement and meet with you and your spouse to set up your settlement process.

With you, we review what is important to the two of you and what we need to talk about.

With you all the needed information and documents are gathered and reviewed so you understand your family’s situation.

With you, we review your options and choices and develop different ways to settle your case.

You and your spouse make choices together and come up with an agreement. We prepare settlement documents to help you finalize the agreement.

Our Guarantee to You

Simply by going through our free screening process you will get access to valuable information and resources at no cost. If we don’t think we can help you we will tell you right away so we won’t waste your time.

*Family Dispute Resolution also includes collaborative law, arbitration and parenting coordination. We offer collaborative law and arbitration services as well.

Frequently Asked Questions

At SettleNow.Online, we deal with separation and divorce differently. For most couples, divorce/separation is pretty simple. However, the legal system makes it complicated. Settle Now Online makes it quick, easy, and efficient with a simple 5-step process to ensure you and your spouse can finally move on with your lives.

The traditional way of divorce or separation (through the Courts) can take years, tens or hundreds of thousands of dollars, and leave you with added stress, frustration, anxiety, depression, or anger. This usually leads to an increasingly hostile and toxic relationship with your spouse, which affects the children in the household as well. Evidence shows that children exposed to chronic stressful environments suffer brain changes.

Settle Now Online is a highly effective and efficient online-based process that helps you and your spouse come to an agreement quickly and with minimal conflict. We do this by using a combination of our own proprietary methods and technology.

With Settle Now Online, you can reach a settlement within 3 months, save thousands of dollars in lawyer fees, and finally set a date for your separation so you can move on with your lives.

Yes – if you want to go to court in Regina or Prince Albert you must engage in one of four early dispute resolution processes (mediation, arbitration, collaborative law or parenting coordination) before the court will allow you to bring a court application. A judge can waive this requirement in exceptional situations. Get started with a free consultation to see if Settle Now Online can help you move on with your lives.

Absolutely – we will help you get an agreement which you can use to obtain your divorce. Only a judge can grant a divorce but with proper disclosure and an interspousal contract, a Judge will be able to grant you a divorce.

Yes – whether you’re married or unmarried, our agreements can help you deal with
questions arising from separation. If you are not married, an interspousal contract may
be all you need.

We do not provide legal advice but we do provide legal information. Any agreement for dividing property must be reviewed and signed by a lawyer. We will help you with that process, so by the time a lawyer is involved, they just need to review and sign-off on the agreement.

Yes – For any valid mediation or any valid contract, both you and your spouse will need to sign any documents either in person or electronically.

You do not need to use the same computer or be on a computer at the same time. You can access our site through any device at a time that works for you. Sometimes we will expect both of you to be electronically present at a meeting where everyone will attend through the use of online conferencing technology.

We provide basic information about the law in Saskatchewan and how it works. Specific legal questions need to be answered by a lawyer.

Unfortunately, if you’re unable to locate or get a hold of your spouse, we cannot help you until you are able to locate or get a hold of them. If you are unable to locate or get a hold of your spouse, we suggest contacting a lawyer who can try to get you legal relief even when your spouse cannot be found.

No – we can put in our agreement how you will get your divorce, who will do it how you will share the cost.

Yes – we offer both in-person meetings and online video meetings.

One of the biggest concerns spouses have when separating is privacy. They don’t want their family, friends, and everyone intruding into their life to know what happened. The last thing they want is their divorce or separation becoming public and people finding out about it.

At Settle Now Onine, our technology is fully secure and nobody ever has access to your files, documents, or details except for the professionals working directly on your case. We take privacy very seriously. We will never spam, rent, sell, or share your personal information or case details with anyone outside of our organization. If you would like more details please contact us directly and we’d be happy to answer any questions you may have.

If you go to Court, the Judge’s decision may be published online.

If you do not settle, we can provide you with a certificate of completion of mediation that will allow you to go to Court.

If you are not married or are common-law, you may never need to go to Court.

If you are married, you will need to go to Court to obtain a divorce – but you can do it as an uncontested divorce on your own.

Most often, people at the start of a divorce do not feel that they will be able to settle anything – but once a proper mediation process is used, they find that they can settle everything.

We can prepare a partial agreement to settle some issues and leave others to be resolved in other ways through a judge, arbitration, a parenting coordinator or through some other way. Sometimes, some issues never need to be settled.

The costs will depend on how complicated your case is.

An hourly rate will be charged plus PST and GST.

These fees do not include any out-of-pocket costs such as real estate appraisals, personal property valuations, or accountant’s advice which you will be expected to pay directly.

We will consider offering you a “Flat Fee” arrangement depending on your case.

This means that there no hidden surprises, ongoing lawyer retainers, or never-ending negotiations. Settle Now Online is one of the most affordable, effective, and least expensive ways of separating or divorcing.

Where a regular court-based divorce can take 2+ years and cost tons of money, Settle Now Online takes an average of 2-3 months in most cases. On top of that, our fee is only a fraction of what you would normally pay for a court-based divorce.

Payment can be made by way of visa or other authorized credit cards, electronic transfer or cheque.

No, but if you have property outside of Saskatchewan different rules may apply. For some rights to exist you must have lived together more than two years.
Settle now is currently only available in Saskatchewan. We hope to expand soon.

Absolutely – and it may be the best way to go. Children are your most important concern. Your children will benefit if you and your spouse can agree.
